College softball: BPCC falls to Galveston College, still alive in Region XIV tournament

first_imgAfter Bossier Parish had tied the game at four in the bottom of the sixth inning, the Galveston College Whitecaps scored two runs in the top of the seventh to capture a 6-4 win over the Lady Cavaliers. After getting two quick outs to begin the seventh, BPCC pitcher Kaitlyn Roth allowed a single to Kirsten Shaw. Kayla Kerr and Alyssa Martinez, the Whitecaps three and four hole hitters, hit back-to-back RBI doubles to the wall in right field. Kerr’s double scored Shaw with the go-ahead run, while Martinez’s double plated Kerr with an insurance run.Kerr came on in relief of starter Ashley Kriesel, who had thrown over 140 pitches in the game, in the bottom of the seventh. She walked Dorrie Cormier on four straight pitches but was able to retire the next three Lady Cavaliers in order to preserve the win for the Whitecaps.Galveston took a 3-0 lead in the third on four hits and one BPCC error. After Alexandria Lewis reached on a fielder’s choice, Shaw singled to right field. BPCC right fielder Morgan Bullock’s throw to third was fielded by third baseman Chelsea Fagan, who applied the tag on Lewis for what would’ve been the second out of the inning. However, the home plate umpired ruled that Fagan obstructed the base runner Lewis and she was awarded the base. Alertly, Shaw took second base on the play, then Kerr delivered a two-RBI double to give the Whitecaps the lead. Kerr would eventually score when Roth’s throw got past BPCC second baseman Zoe Hancock on Anahi Hoover’s bunt base hit.BPCC scored a pair a runs in the fifth on Jayleen Lantier’s bases-loaded single. BPCC’s cleanup hitter Chelsea Fagan, who leads the NJCAA’s Div. I in home runs, was intentionally walked for the third time prior to Lantier’s base hit. After Galveston added a run in the sixth on Caylei Allen’s RBI double, the Lady Cavaliers tied the game in the bottom half of the inning. Raina McKean led off the frame with and pinch-hit single. Bryant then laid down a sacrifice bunt which was fielded by Kriesel, who threw to first but no one was covering. The error allowed McKean and Bryant to move up to second and third. Hancock followed with a bunt that was fielded by Galveston third baseman Adrianna Rincon. After Elisa Favela popped out for the first out of the inning, Galveston was in the process of intentionally walking Fagan for a fourth time. However, on the 2-0 pitch Hancock took off for second base. Whitecaps catcher Allen threw down to second and on the throw Bryant broke for home. Lewis cut off the throw and relayed the ball back to Allen but not in time to get Bryant, who slid across with the tying run. Kriesel was able to avoid giving up the lead by getting Lantier to pop out and Bullock to line out to end the threat. The Lady Cavaliers left 12 runners on base in the game, seven in scoring position.Kriesel earned the victory, her second of the tournament, by scattering seven hits over six innings, walking four and striking out four. Kerr earned the save as she retired three of the four batters she faced in the seventh. Roth took the loss for the Lady Cavaliers after allowing six runs on nine hits. She did not walk a batter and struck out three as her record falls to 13-2 on the season. The win puts the Whitecaps into the winners bracket finals tomorrow versus the Tyler Junior College Apache Ladies. The loss sends the BPCC to the losers bracket where they’ll have to win two games on Sunday to avoid elimination and reach the tournament finals. BPCC was scheduled to face Trinity Valley at Lamar State College – Port Arthur’s Martin Field at 12:30 p.m.— Charlie Cavell, BPCC athletic coordinatorPerfect-Dating.comAre You Ready to Meet Cool Guys in Tung Chung?Perfect-Dating.com|SponsoredSponsoredUndoTheTopFiveVPNThe Secret Netflix Doesn’t Want You To Know To Unblock RestrictionsTheTopFiveVPN|SponsoredSponsoredUndoAspireAbove.comRemember Abby from NCIS? Because if this is all levels, I’m disappointed that the Hillsboro Hops are not on the leaderboard.Edit: I just got a matchup between two Cubs affiliates so multiple levels are included. So disappointed now. They’re ranked 27th on the leaderboard. wonderbread In my opinion, the best cap in minor-league baseball is a toss-up between the Hillsboro Hops (home) and Idaho Falls Chukars (home) lids.At the opposite end of the spectrum are the affronts to aesthetics sported by the Batavia Muckdogs. 13,075 Posted May 9, 2014 twi Share on other sites twi 382 Link to post Posted May 9, 2014 TheRicSlick Link to post Link to post Location:Atlanta Forums Home 7,532 posts Members what the hell is ccslc? Here goes a huge chunk of my day…But seriously, this is pretty cool idea. 0 This is completely self-serving as I am a (very) minority owner of the team, but I love the Billings Mustangs home cap with red top, black bill and the alternate is pretty good-looking too. 121 Favourite Logos:Pensacola Blue Wahoos Primary Share on other sites Members 805 Wow! Share on other sites Location:Cincinnati Surprised the Quad Cities River Bandits are as high as they are (3 when I played this game for 20 minutes yesterday). They reintroduced the classic “ballguy” last year — which would have been a contender in 1995 when the Wu-Tang Clan liked to wear it — and I’ve just never fully accepted the modern raccoon as a logo on that level. 13,075 Sports Logo News Best Minor League Hatlast_img read more
