Then, after a long day’s work, he would walk the same distance all the way back home again.Despite the 21-year-old father never telling any of his co-workers at the UPS facility in Little Rock, Arkansas, the workforce eventually found out about his exhausting commute. But instead of allowing the dedicated dad to continue hiking to and from work every day, they all pitched in enough money to buy him a new car.According to WTVR, Lewis’s coworker Kenneth Bryant said: “Everybody who I talked to said yes! The hardest part was reminding them to bring cash.WATCH: Bus Driver’s “Ecstatic” Reaction to Students Surprising Him With Super Bowl Tickets“I told the seller what I was doing and who it was for and he said he was willing to work with me on a price,” he added.Bryant was eventually able to buy a 2006 Saturn Ion for a mere $2,000. The workforce then lured Lewis to the parking lot for a brief “union meeting” last week. When Lewis joined all of his co-workers in the lot, however, they handed him the keys to the Saturn.RELATED: Student Wakes From Nap to Find That Stranger Had Overheard Her Financial Difficulties and Left a GiftThough Lewis is reportedly described as “stoic”, he could not contain his emotions over the gift.“For a young person to decide in their mind ‘if I don’t have a ride, if I can’t get a ride then I’ll walk,’” said Bryant, “if a guy can do that, we can pitch in to help.”Furthermore, Lewis says that the first thing he did in his new car was pick up his 14-month-old daughter so they could get a bite to eat.(WATCH the video below)Click To Share The Sweet Surprise With Your Friends AddThis Sharing ButtonsShare to FacebookFacebookFacebookShare to TwitterTwitterTwitterShare to EmailEmailEmailShare to RedditRedditRedditShare to MoreAddThisMorelast_img read more

West and Dockers are just better performers as POM AFL enters round five

first_imgAFL BY SIMON KESLEP Biamark Maritime West Eagles and Lamana Dockers are just better performers in the seniors division as the Esiloan sponsored Port Moresby AFL enters round five this weekend at Bisini Colts oval. This was according to President Douglas Lai who told Post-Courier via email that both teams have better performance and are well coached. “Key recruitment is not what I see as the key factor here, West and Dockers are just better and well coached then their other opponents,” said Lai. Progressive points ladder after round five last weekend sees Eagles and Dockers both undefeated with 16 points, Suncity Cats 12, Gereka Bombers 8, Gordons Kokofas 8, Concept Koboni 4, Gerehu Magpies 0 and North Waigani Royals Tigers 0. “In the seniors competition, West as usual have maintained their early start as favorites and it is apparent they have been playing well together as a unit. Also in the reserve grade, West and Dockers are early favorites as the both teams are playing well with some good young kids primed for senior footy soon,” said Lai. He said the girls competition sees Dockers with their experienced players and some good coaching are likely contenders for another great year and grand final appearance again. “There is so much improvement required with the womens competition and the past four rounds have shown not much skillful games displayed. Talent is there but it needs very committed coaches to ensure the talent is well guided,” said Lai. “With the national championships to be returned this year, all our girls need to polish up on their skills, so far it is just not good enough.” Meanwhile the association as a whole is one of the representative hub for the selection of PNG Mosquitoes (men) and PNG Flames (women) players. Lai said yes surely couple of players have been identified and given special watch. Lai said it is not only the footy talent that they are looking at but also individual player’s attitude on and off the field. “You can be a good player but you have to have the right attitude to be a good sports ambassador for the country. Players we bring to international events such as the International Cup must be good performers both on and off the field. It is what we display that tells the story of what we have back home,” said Lai. Tomorrow in the senior division match will see Tigers take on Eagles while Concept Koboni will look to claim their second win as they face off with Gerehu Magpies. They (Koboni) started their season campaign on a slow note losing three opening matches and just one win last week against Gordons Kokofas. Dockers will again put to the test as they meet Cats on Sunday while the main game showdown is between Gereka Bombers and Gordons Kokofas. William Yogomin of Kokofas said they would not take them (Bombers) lightly. He said they (Bombers) have a new look and strong side and all senior players in the Kokofas team need to step up and good support coming from A reserve players to fit in the senior roles.last_img read more

Lazio won 1-3. © AFP / FILIPPO MONTEFORTEROME, Italy, May 3 – Roma club icon Francesco Totti will retire at the end of the season when the 40-year-old’s contract expires, new sports director Monchi said on Wednesday.“I want him here right by my side. He is Roma. He can teach me what Roma is,” said Monchi at his unveiling in the role, adding the captain will remain at the club in a management position. “There is an agreement in place. This is his last season but then he continues in management.”“I want Totti to explain to me what Roma is, to make me understand what he knows,” added the Spaniard Monchi, who won credit for his sports director role at Sevilla, who won the Europa League in 2014, 2015 and 2016.The striker Totti has played all his professional career at Roma and is a hugely popular figure, making his debut in 1993.Roma coach Luciano Spalletti had a series of run-ins with the Roma number 10 last season.Despite that and his advancing years Totti answered with a string of key goals and eventually got another 12-month contract last summer, although Roma said then it would be his final season.Asked how he felt after his last derby, the weekend defeat to Lazio, Totti said: “Others see this is as my last derby, but I don’t.”Monchi also said he wants to keep Spalletti at Roma, who are second in Serie A.0Shares0000(Visited 1 times, 1 visits today)last_img read more

Arsene Wenger ‘unwilling to take gamble’ in FA Cup win over Lincoln

first_img The Gunners boss fielded a strong starting XI in the 5-0 win over the non-league outfit 1 Arsene Wenger admitted he did not want to gamble on his team selection as Arsenal proved too strong for non-league Lincoln, easing to a 5-0 win in their FA Cup quarter-final at the Emirates Stadium. In a week which has seen Arsenal’s Premier League and Champions League hopes end in humiliating fashion, Wenger knew that a win in the world’s oldest club competition could be the one shining light to their season. The Vanarama National League leaders, however, more than held their own in the first half before Theo Walcott put the Gunners ahead at the interval.Arsenal’s gulf in class then began to show as an Olivier Giroud effort, a Luke Waterfall own goal, and goals from Alexis Sanchez and Aaron Ramsey earned their place in the semi-finals.Wenger has already won the FA Cup a record-equalling six times and therefore knew the importance of the game even against lowly opposition, defending his decision to field a strong starting line-up.“I didn’t want to gamble today because I knew that it was very important to win the game,” Wenger said during his post-match press conference.“I felt as well, on the other hand, that the team had performed well against Bayern and I wanted to give them a chance to find their confidence back by winning the next game. And that’s why I maintained 90 per cent of the players in the starting line-up.“We were a bit nervous because your confidence drops when you don’t have the results. The team was unjustifiably criticised for our last game against Bayern Munich because we had an outstanding game.“The game was killed not by the fault of the players but we have to take a distance with us and have a look at the bigger perspective than people want to do.“Overall we had to respond today and that’s what we did. We had an outstanding game against Bayern Munich but our game was killed by the referee. I watched this game three times now and it’s still the referee who killed our game.”With around 9,000 travelling Lincoln fans cheering their side on, Arsenal struggled to gain a stronghold in the game and Wenger gave credit to the visitors for making life tough for his side.“It was difficult,” Wenger said. “They knocked Ipswich out. They knocked Brighton out. They knocked Burnley out at Burnley.“You could see in the first half that they had a very direct game, but they had clarity about what they wanted to do and they did that very well.“Overall I think for us it was important to be focused not to make a mistake. They had a big crowd behind them as well and they had a chance. There was a big save from Petr Cech in the first half.”last_img read more

He then fled to Orange County, where after midnight he called 911 with suicidal threats. Orange County Sheriff’s deputies tracked the call to an intersection in Anaheim. When they arrived, Beltran stood outside his car with his wrists bleeding. He refused to drop his knife. Deputies said Beltran was likely trying to commit suicide-by-cop by approaching police with a weapon in the expectation that authorities would shoot him. Instead, they fired bean bag rounds at Beltran. During his arrest, police said Beltran admitted to the killings. Since then, he has remained at Twin Towers Correctional Facility in downtown Los Angeles. [email protected] center_img Opening statements were scheduled to begin today in Van Nuys Superior Court for a triple murder that destroyed a family four years ago and rocked a quiet Sun Valley community with violence. Julian Arturo Beltran, 32, faces three counts of murder for the 2002 slayings of estranged girlfriend Mariana Michelle Barahona, 24, and the couple’s two daughters, Marissa Beltran, 6, and Natalie Beltran, 2. He has pleaded not guilty to all charges in a case that Los Angeles police have labeled domestic violence. The couple had an eight-year relationship, but they were separated at the time of the murder. Beltran had walked out on the family three months before, authorities said. last_img read more
