Preseason ball field upgrades under way

first_imgABERDEEN — With baseball season on deck, the township has started work on three softball and baseball fields that will result in the addition of drainage at each site along with reconditioning of the infields with new infield mix. Work began Feb. 23 on the Little League/softball league and regulation baseball fields at Guisti Park, located on Cliffwood Avenue, and the field at Storyland Park, located off Warren Drive at Woodman Place. According to the township, the projects, which will cost approximately $40,000 for completion, are scheduled for completion prior to the start of the spring 2009 sports season, weather permitting. Lucas Construction, of the Morganville section of Marlboro, is the contractor on the projects. According to a press release from the township, this is the latest in a series of improvements made to the township’s ball and soccer fields. Last year, Fireman’s Field, on Gafton and Lloyd roads, underwent a major upgrade that also included a new infield with extensive drainage improvements, new dugouts, and a higher fence along the firstbase line to protect cars parked nearby. Infield, drainage and dugout improvements were also completed at Ross Field in Cliffwood Beach and Cambridge Field on Lloyd Road. — Erin O. Stattellast_img
