HTC U12+ design, full specs leaked ahead of May 23 launch

first_imgHTC’s next flagship phone, the U12+, has leaked online, and because it’s coming straight from serial tipster Evan Blass, chances are that this is it. Although Blass’ reveal isn’t something that’s remarkably new — we already have some idea of what to expect from the U12+ courtesy previous leaks — it paints the full picture of what to expect, even as HTC looks all set to launch the phone at an event in New York on May 23. The U12+, as per an image shared by Blass, will come in at least three colours: black, lilac and HTC’s signature limited edition translucent. The design, it seems is going to see a refresh, although it may be too early to say that based on a picture. Pictures can be deceiving, after all.If that wasn’t enough, the tipster has also manged to get a hold of the full spec sheet of the HTC U12+, leaving nothing to the imagination. As per the spec-sheet shared by Blass, the U12+ will retain HTC’s hallmark liquid surface design scheme although the image shared seems to suggest the HTC U12+ will come with a matte glass back — something on the lines of frosted glass we saw in yesteryear Sony phones and very recently in the OnePlus 6 — and not the shiny, psychedelic avatar of recent HTC phones. But as I mentioned earlier, pictures can be deceiving, so chances are the liquid surface design scheme may not be going anywhere yet. The translucent flavour will meanwhile, just like it is in the case of the U11+, will let you have a sneak peak inside the phone from the back. The phone is seen sporting a dual camera module on the back arranged horizontally, but unlike most phones with a dual camera, this one doesn’t mimic the iPhone. Just like it doesn’t mimic a notch on the front.advertisementThe fingerprint scanner lies on the back, which means, HTC may not join the in-screen bandwagon just yet. Another big change, which has been leaked previously as well, is the presence of dual rear cameras on the front as well. This means the HTC U12+ will have a total of four cameras to boot: two on the front and two on the back.HTC U12+: Specs and featuresThe HTC U12+, as per the leak will come with a 6-inch Quad-HD+ Super LCD 6 display with an 18:9 aspect ratio with support for DCPI-3 and HDR 10. Looks like there will be a secondary screen option built in, something that HTC will be calling smart display for notifications. In terms of core hardware, the HTC U12+ will come with Qualcomm’s top-of-the-line Snapdragon 845 processor with 6GB RAM and up to 128GB storage which will be expandable by up to 2TB via a micro-SD card. On the software front, it will run Android 8.0 Oreo-based Sense UI upgradable to Android P-based Sense UI.The phone will come with IP68-certification and cram in Alexa and a second-generation Edge Sense squeeze feature. On the optics front, the U12+ will ship with a dual camera system on the rear consisting of one 12-megapixel sensor f/1.75 aperture and a secondary 16-megapixel telephoto lens capable of 2X optical zoom and 10X digital zoom. This dual camera system will be aided by HTC’s UltraPixel 4 technology and UltarSpeed Autofocus 2 (laser autofocus+phase detection), OIS and dual LED flash. The dual camera system will also be capable of taking bokeh shots and shooting 4K videos although seems like HTC isn’t joining the Super slow-mo bandwagon yet. On the front, the U12+ will have two 8-megapixel cameras with f/2.0 aperture. On the audio front, the U12+ will support HTC’s U-Sonic sound technology as also BoomSound along with High-Res support. The phone will be backed by a 3,500mAh battery with support for Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 3.0. Sadly, there won’t be any wireless charging.ALSO READ: HTC U12+ full specs leaked online, 8GB RAM, dual front cameras and wireless charging tippedlast_img
